Final blog: my final words of LSKM 221

Image
My final words to you... As I sit here on a coldish kind of day full of raindrops and cleanly washed roads, I feel fresh. Today has been a better day for me. I feel hopeful, joyful, and so blessed. Jesus is taking care of his own. As I sit here, I wonder, will we have a music module again in the future. Will we have a lector that helps us like this one. Will anyone ever be as kindhearted lector. Will I sit here and do blogs, which I enjoy doing. I have done most of my work for this semester, only have a couple of things left to do. It feels so amazing to not be as rushed…ask me tomorrow and then I am rushed again…but for now I see the bright light at the end of the tunnel that was this busy horrifying semester. LSKM 221 , you were good to me. Since I have sang in the school’s choir since I can remember I knew a lot about music. But I believe we never stop learning since we can never know enough. Yes, I had a bunch of prior knowledge on the concept music, but wow, I still lear...

Study Unit 5: Lesson planning

Image
Lesson planning This is a long, warm, and tiring week. Although we are in the last stretch of the last semester of our second year, I am so tired.   Every now and then I think by myself, I am almost there. I am almost halfway. Then I get so anxious because how long must we still go…and I remember how far I have come. This week has been heartwarming. I am volunteering at one of our primary schools here on my little dorpie. I can not explain to someone how awesome it is. I have gained so many courage and kindness and so much love from these kiddos. Some of these children don’t have parents nor older sisters to help them. They are all alone. In times like this I wonder how I can even complain about university work, I mean I have the chance to study further for something that is my passion. This week together with my thoughts I have known what I have wanted to put out there for the longest time… Teachers, give them a chance. Give them an opportunity. Give them hope. Some o...

Study Unit 4: Arts integration in the foundation phase

Image
Hello again, yes me again. Although it is the second time this week that I have talked to you. I just missed you so much and wanted to share another study units work with you. My week is still the same. Today everything settled down and I found my feet at the school. Today I had to make my voice loud and be someone completely different. Kids faces is so cute, but with the generation of today you must keep your guard and don’t let those cute faces fool you.   Lets talk about the fourth study unit. Art … what a lovely way to relax, find inner peace and just be yourself. A lot of people barely know what art means. They believe only an artist can make art. Only expensive painting you buy in the store is art, but that is not true. Art is a diverse range of (and products of) human activities involving creative imagination to express technical proficiency, beauty, emotional power, or conceptual ideas. Arts integration in the foundation phase education contribute towards higher mot...

Study Unit 3: Musical play in the foundation phase.

Image
While it is only the middle of the week it has surely been an interesting week so far. I have been at a primary school here in my small karoo town. It was quite something different to experience since it is a less fortunate school. It was so sad to see but so heart-warming to see the children come to school to only eat the meals they are fed at break. So emotionally I am quite confused and heartbroken. But I am grateful for everything I have although we sometimes take it for granted This study unit was very interesting to work through. To learn about all the different types of play. Before I had worked through the study unit I thought of play as play. Now I know why we play in the classroom and also what types of play there is. I have also learned the importance of play in education. BASED OF ON THE STORY THAT WAS GIVEN: What possibly made some learners uncomfortable during these activities? The one learner did not understand Zulu. Unfortunately, the song the students sang wa...

Study Unit 2: Listening and responding to music

This week has been quite nice. The workload is finally getting little better. I was quite sick last week so I have been catching up and working from where I stopped last. I like working ahead so I know when I get sick, I don’t get anxious about the workload. There is so much that I found quite interesting about this work. The elements of music were quite amazing to learn about. How everything is intertwined together but still on its own. Although I already knew most of these things, I had a great time watching the videos and learning how I could teach it to my students one day.   Individual reflection 1.   Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) refer to non-classical music. This includes experimental music, folk, country, rap, hip-hop, soul, R&B, gospel, rock, pop, and the music theatre. So, when you look at the bigger picture, it includes so many genres. This would be very beneficial to the students since not everyone has the same ‘’taste’’ in music. The CCM ...

Study Unit 1: The value of music for the holistic development of foundation phase learners.

Hello everyone, back again to talk a little bit more about LSKM 221. Well before I do so, let me just tell you about this week. Monday was so nice, I just relaxed after a very awful weekend. I laid in bed and looked how much sweets I could possibly eat. By Tuesday I started to panic again. I don’t know why the beginning of the semester is always so stressful. It is so weird in the beginning of the semester you are so overwhelmed and then everything calms down as the time goes by. I dealt with a lot of family issues this couple of days, but it’s so nice to do this blog to ‘’escape’’ from all that. What I found very interesting is the different developments which children go through at different ages. This includes things like rhythm, singing and playing instruments. It was interesting for me to read through all that information and try to compare it to my development of those different things when I was that age. There are so many things that I have learned in this study unit. Things ...

LSKM 211 Introduction

Image
Hello everyone. I am CharnĂ© Vorster, a 20 year old second year student at NWU. I live a super small town, Graaff-Reinet. My town is so small there are no robots and the nearest City to us is about 3 hours away. Everyone knows everyone here. It is a very small community where everyone stands together as one. I love being surrounded by nature, hence the reason for me living in such a small town. Well why do I want to be a teacher? I love every child, no matter who they are or how old they are. Although I love everyone, I feel the small kiddos don’t have their own voice. I want to be their voice and I want to be the change in their lives. Going from low priority to high priority. I believe a child’s education and personal life depends on how the foundation was build at an early age.  I am very passionate about a lot of things. I am a very hyper, super active person so everything pulls my attention. I love nature, animals. I love crafting, playing, organizing and so much more, so, it r...
